2024 S.C.PANNELL Smart Grenache

The eighth and final release from this 70 year old dry-grown vineyard. All the Grenache wines going forward will come from the estate owned Little Branch vineyard.

Quite some rosy perfume here in with cherry and raspberry, some liquorice richness and spice. It’s medium-bodied and offers a good amount of lush red fruit flavour that’s controlled by a superb set of graphite tannin, acidity sits perfectly within the wine and lends freshness, and the finish is very long leaving a fragrant trail and stony tannin grip. Going out with a bang. A great release.

Tasting Note

Flavour

The aromatics always leave the strongest impression and precede a palate of bergamot and pink fruits like lillypilly and cranberry.

Texture

Tetrahedrons joined accross the palate to tickle all corners. The texture appears to be delicate and breakable but is actually strong and supportive. The flavours slide accross the palate and carry the aromatics. Singular, medium bodied and contradictory.

Try with Shane Delia's lamb shoulder tagine. We recommend decanting one hour before service.

Cellaring

Give it 10, in a cool dark cellar.
