SC Pannell Wines has capped-off an extraordinary month of show success by taking out four trophies at the 2014 Alternative Varieties Wine Show, including Best Wine of Show, Best Red of Show, Best Blended Red and Best Spanish Red for the SC Pannell Wines 2013 Tempranillo Touriga.
Following the winery’s recent wins for the 2014 Jimmy Watson and Trevor Mast Trophies respectively, the latest achievement is one that Pannell views just as enthusiastically: “I never thought this wine would be a show-winning wine as I made it just to be drunk – full of flavour and intensity, but remaining supple and quaffable.
“It is a red wine for our climate and way of life and I think we need to start to make wines that respond to where and how we live. In a funny way I think grape varieties for Mediterranean climates not only handle our environment, but I think they were also originally supported in their native country because people enjoyed drinking them with their local food.”
“So, I think not only are they better adapted to the Vale, but they also make wines that are more relevant to our modern, Australian way of life, with varied food influences and an increasingly eclectic cuisine,” Pannell concluded.
This latest result builds on an impressive run for SC Pannell Wines in the Alternative Varieties Wine Show, including:
2009: 2007 S.C. Pannell Nebbiolo – Best Italian Varietal and Best Red Wine
2012: 2008 S.C. Pannell Nebbiolo – Best Red Wine and Best Nebbiolo
2013: 2012 S.C. Pannell Tempranillo Touriga – Best Blended Wine, Best Spanish Red Wine, Best Red Wine
